Adventure Holiday Activities – are they Safe?

Adventure activities outside of the UK can sometimes be risky. How do you know if they are safe? Is the equipment reliable? What is the safety record like? Here are some tips for working out whether an activity is safe whilst abroad:

• Do you research. Look online and read reviews from other travellers and families who may have had a similar experience.
• Ask the people running the activity about health and safety. If their English is not good enough to discuss it, then it is probably not good enough to give you adequate safety instructions either and you should perhaps reconsider.
• Look up the activity and read around it. For example, if you are going to be bungee jumping in Florida, find out a bit about the industry and what you should look out for when ascertaining safety.
• Take your own equipment. For activities like skiing, this can be the best option.
