  • Taking young children on holiday

After you have children, the thought of a holiday may be terrifying – but that need not be the case. It is always going to be more complicated than when it was just the two of you, especially when your children are very young, but there are people who are more than happy to help and with a bit of careful planning you can reach your destination safely and without too many new grey hairs!

Ideally you need to pack plenty to do on the aeroplane, train, or however it is you are travelling. Depending on the age of your children this could include games and videos for a tablet or handheld games console, pencils and colouring books, activity and story books and a favourite teddy for comfort.

If you research beforehand, there are plenty of hotels and campsites that can offer activities for children too. Some have a babysitting service that you can make use of if you want to have adult time on an evening. Swimming pools are always a fun part of the holiday too, and now you have an excuse to have fun on the water slides with the children!

  • Adventure Holiday Activities – are they Safe?

Adventure activities outside of the UK can sometimes be risky. How do you know if they are safe? Is the equipment reliable? What is the safety record like? Here are some tips for working out whether an activity is safe whilst abroad:

    • Do you research. Look online and read reviews from other travellers and families who may have had a similar experience.
    • Ask the people running the activity about health and safety. If their English is not good enough to discuss it, then it is probably not good enough to give you adequate safety instructions either and you should perhaps reconsider.
    • Look up the activity and read around it. For example, if you are going to be bungee jumping in Florida, find out a bit about the industry and what you should look out for when ascertaining safety.
    • Take your own equipment. For activities like skiing, this can be the best option.
  • Luxury tropical holidays

If you are looking to book a luxury tropical holiday then you may want to read this brief guide below which has been designed to ensure that you get the best experience from your get away in the tropics.

If you are looking to create unforgettable experiences that will stay with you forever then booking a holiday with the right tour operator is essential. If price is not the main factor when booking a holiday and you want luxury, then you need to do plenty of research before you make your decision on who to book with. There are many firms out there that state they offer luxury holiday packages, but often they are no more luxury than the majority of package holidays you can find on the internet. To get a truly spectacular experience you may need to look a little further afield and spend time trailing through reviews to find the best people.

  • Sightseeing with children

    Sightseeing with children

Many people like to do a certain amount of sightseeing when on holiday and if you have children this can often be made a little difficult. Sometimes sightseeing involves a lot of walking and for smaller children, this simply may be too much for them and after less than an hour they may be feeling too tired to carry on.

If you are planning some sightseeing when on holiday with children, especially young ones, then you need to plan ahead a little. Rather than just going off on a walk, try and plan out your route and check out the terrain. It may be that you can take a pushchair to where you want to go, allowing the child to sit down and relax whilst you power on.

Sightseeing can be boring for children, so try and plan in some activities for them to do along the way. It may be something as simple as stopping for an ice cream, or building a den in a forest, or even sightseeing by going to museums or working shops / streets to view the history of a place.

  • Making the most of the bad weather

Making the most of the bad weather

If you are holiday making in the UK then you may have to expect bad weather no matter what time of the year you chose to go. Although the UK has some beautiful locations and many attractions that will keep the family entertained, the weather is one thing that cannot be guaranteed.

You should always plan a few activities that you can do that will not depend on the weather. If you have young children you may want to research some local soft play areas. Aquariums are great for all the family as well as Zoos and theme parks.

If you are not able to spend much on entertainment, take some games with you to play in your accommodation or dress up in your waterproof and go out in the rain for a stroll along the beach.

Even holidays that see little sun can be great fun and bring the family closer together.
