Three Ideas for your Tanzania Safari

One of the most popular countries for a safari in Africa, Tanzania is far more varied than you might first imagine. Below are three options to consider for a Tanzania safari; you could think about doing just one option or even combining them with one another.

The Northern Circuit

The northern areas of Tanzania are the country’s most well-known. The famous Serengeti National Park is here along with areas such as the Tarangire, Lake Manyara and the Ngorongoro Crater. Wildlife in these areas is fantastic, particularly in the Serengeti. This is also where you’ll find the Great Migration (for some months of the year), an incredible gathering of over two million wildebeest and zebra. The best way to see the north is with a private guide who will accompany you to each location bringing with them a wealth of knowledge and experience whilst ensuring consistency throughout your holiday.

Tanzania’s Remote South

The southern parks and reserves are lesser known and less frequented by tourists. These largely unexplored areas have fantastic wildlife but with fewer visitors meaning you have the animals to yourself and are unlikely to encounter many other tourists during your stay. These are rugged and remote areas, well suited to the active traveller who wants a truly authentic safari experience. If this sounds like you then why not look into visiting the Ruaha National Park, the Selous Game Reserve or the Katavi National Park for your Tanzania safari?

Chimp Trekking in the Mahale Mountains

Did you know there are chimpanzees in Tanzania? As well as traditional game viewing in the bush, you can also find families of fascinating, animated chimps. Towards the west of the country is the Mahale Mountains National Park. These mountains are cloaked in lush rainforest, home to many chimps. Along with a guide you can trek through these mountains to find the chimpanzees. At the foot of the mountains are the sandy shores of Lake Tanganyika so when you’re not out in the forest you can lie back and relax on the sands or even take a lazy dhow cruise across the lake as the sun sets.
